Bellydance After Dark

Presented by INBC and Inferno Vortex

What happens when bellydance meets the flow arts and the sun goes down?

Bellydance After Dark is an immersive day-and-night gathering for dancers, flow artists, fire performers, drummers and curious humans who want to learn, play, connect, and experience something a little different.

Join us for a magical day of outdoor dance and flow activities, beginning at 10 AM and continuing into the wee hours. When the night is over, you don’t have to go home, the campground has plenty of room to pitch your tent and spend the night.  Move, learn, and explore with workshops in bellydance, dark fusion, flow, and fire arts. Learn about fire safety, explore new flow props, then gather around the bonfire as the evening unfolds.
  • Bellydance & fusion workshops
  • Flow art prop workshops
  • A flow show and cypher
  • Community bonfire and drumming
  • Open fire circle
  • Overnight camping option
  • Opportunities to meet, learn from, and connect with artists from both communities
Whether you’re a bellydancer curious about fire, a flow artist curious about bellydance, an experienced fire performer, or simply looking for a new kind of dance gathering, come join us after dark.

Inferno Vortex is a Bloomington-based fire performance troupe founded in 2013. The troupe brings together fire, dance, and flow arts. They have performed at Renaissance fairs, festivals, community events, and private gatherings throughout Indiana, and teach workshops throughout the Midwest.

Safety is a central part of what Inferno Vortex does. The troupe maintains trained safety personnel and professional equipment and has years of experience working with fire in performance settings.

For Bellydance After Dark, Inferno Vortex is bringing performance, workshops, and fire safety to the event.

    Venue

Bellydance After Dark will be held at Midian Outdoor Event Venue.  Midian is a versatile, welcoming outdoor event space nestled in the natural landscape of Lawrence County, Southern Indiana. On 26 acres of mature woodland — midway between Bloomington and Bedford — the grounds offer something most venues simply cannot manufacture: a genuine sense of place. The facility includes a pavilion, open gathering fields, fire circles, and wooded camp areas that will provide a natural backdrop for our event.

The Midian General Store will be open during our event offering a selection of herbal teas, coffee, mushroom coffee, sodas, free bottle water and ice. They will also be hosting a raffle for fire props, light props, etc. to raise money for Midian.

    Food

3 Sages will be on hand serving up tasty nourishment to sustain you through your dance/fire/drumming/camping journey!

Your all-day pass includes an option for primitive overnight camping!

    What you need to know:

    • The facility has porta potties.  No flush toilets or bathhouses.
    • There are showers but they’re for rinsing only.  Due to local regulations, soap, shampoo and other products are not to be used.  Still, it feels good to rinse the soot off before bed!
    • Equipment is limited to tents and small teardrop-style, off-grid campers.  There are no electric, water or sewer hookups.
The Midian General Store will be open during our event offering a selection of herbal teas, coffee, mushroom coffee, sodas, free bottle water and ice.
Instructor applications are due by September 13, 2026.  You will be notified shortly thereafter whether or not your application was accepted.  Accepted instructors will receive a free all-day pass to the event and announcement on social media.

Preference for classes will be given to those with a flow prop combined with an element of dance.
Example: Turning with a 3 beat weave.
There will also be stages for lecture and drumming classes.

Note:  If you’re an instructor and you also want to perform in the show, you must complete an application for each.
    • The Flow Show will be at the stage. You will be performing to your own music.  LED props can be on stage and fire props will be on the grass in front of the stage. This is likely a choreography you have prepared in advance.

    • The Cypher will be on the stage and can be with LED props or unlit, brightly colored flow or dance props (no fire). This will be to high energy music, about 1 minute long and will rotate with other performers. It is fast paced, improvised, and will have an MC hyping you and the audience. Bring your best tricks!

    • There will also be an open burn around the fire with live drumming. This does not require application to participate, but does require attending the safety class and your own props.  Fuel donations are appreciated!

Please limit your flow show performance to 5 minutes. If you wish to be in more than one act (e.g. performing as a soloist and with a troupe, or the flow show and the cypher), each act should have its own submission.

Performer applications are due by September 26, 2026.  You will be notified shortly thereafter whether or not your application was accepted. Everyone (i.e. each soloist and every member of a troupe) dancing in the show must purchase an all-day pass (does not apply to event instructors or INBC individual or professional members).   Accepted performers will be announced on social media.

Note:  If you’re an instructor and you also want to perform in the show, you must complete an application for each.
Vendor applications will accepted until all spaces have been awarded.  Please apply early to assure that you get the number of spaces you would like and to allow us time to publicize your booth. You must pay your vending fee to lock in your spot. All fees must be paid prior to the event and are non-refundable.

Booth size is 12′ x 12′ and cost is $100 ($50 for Individual and Professional members of INBC) per booth space.  Additionally, Professional members get their first booth space for only $5.  You may request additional spaces which will be granted based on availability. Accepted vendors will receive a vendor pass allowing complete access to the event for each person working the booth, and announcement on social media.  If accepted, you will receive a PayPal invoice for the amount of your fees.

Please provide your own popup and tables. This is an outdoor event.

Volunteers are the backbone of a successful event.

If you are able to help, please let us know by sending us an email.  Please let us know when you’d like to help (set-up, clean-up, or specific time slot). When you arrive at the event, just let the registration desk know that you signed up to volunteer and we will work with you to find an opportunity that accommodates your schedule!

    What should I wear?
For everyone’s safety, please wear clothing made from natural fibers during fire activities. A 100% cotton T-shirt and jeans are perfectly fine. We also recommend tying back long hair, wearing a bandana or other hair covering, avoiding hairspray and wearing shoes!  Be sure to bring a jacket or sweatshirt for the evening.

What training is required to participate in the fire activities?

Can I perform in the show if I’m not a member?
